Thermoformed

Thermoformed

Thermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable plastic package container.

Blister pack and clamshell packages often use thermoforming to create the final package, though thermoforming can also produce a separate plastic top or lid and bottom tray to contain and display a product. A thermoformed plastic package using a separate top and bottom tray is often preferred for larger or heavier products that are too bulky for a clamshell format, products coming in sets (such as consumer batteries and drill bits) and products that can spill (such as food products).

As with out other plastic packaging formats, SM Global is proud to offer environmentally friendly PET material options for thermoformed packaging.
