Blister Pack

Blister packs use thermoformed or vacuum-formed plastic cavities or pockets, formed to the shape of and surrounding the product contained. The plastic blister is usually joined with a paperboard or a lidding seal of aluminum foil, plastic, or coated paperboard. They are very tamper-evident, deterring consumer tampering in the store.

Blister packs are preferred for smaller or lightweight consumer goods, foods and for pharmaceuticals, sometimes when individual doses or servings are how the product is used. For consumer goods, the blister pack often features a 2-side printed back that features package graphics.

Blister packs tend to be lighter and use less material than traditional clamshell packages. Combined with SM Global’s ability to offer environmentally friendly PET films, blister packs can be designed that are particularly “green.”
